Hey everyone! Peter here, back with another update on our Roll20–Demiplane integration! It has been incredible seeing the ongoing adoption and first impressions of our Cross-Platform Sync, Shared Subscription Benefits, and Character Integration Public Alpha over these past few weeks. The team gathered your feedback from forums, Discord, and our three live sessions with the community, and I wanted to take today’s post to answer some of the most common questions we’ve received so far. Let’s dive in!
Cross-Platform Sync: How’s it Going?
Q: What is Cross-Platform Sync?
For the new folks, Cross-Platform Sync allows you to buy content once on either Demiplane or Roll20 and access the available content on the opposite platform at no additional cost. Once you sync your account between the two platforms, the content should unlock almost at the speed of the internet.
Q: Which game systems currently support Cross-Platform Sync?
Our offerings for Cross-Platform Sync continue to expand! Since launch, we have announced support for:
- All Pathfinder & Starfinder titles available on both platforms
- Marvel Multiverse RPG
- Cyberpunk RED – Hope Reborn
- ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game
- Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition
I am pleased to announce that we have just added Fallout: The Roleplaying Game’s Core Rulebook to Cross Platform Sync, which means Roll20 owners of the Fallout Core Rulebook will can sync their accounts to access the Core Rulebook on Demiplane when Fallout Nexus launches later this week!
Q: How do I enable Cross-Platform Sync?
Enabling Cross-Platform sync is simple! You can link your Roll20 and Demiplane accounts (we have step-by-step guides here: Roll20 Guide | Demiplane Guide). Once linked, your purchased content will sync across both platforms.
Q: Will more games be added to Cross-Platform Sync?
Absolutely. We’re actively working with our publishing partners to expand this feature. Stay tuned!
Shared Subscription Benefits: A Bridge to Unlimited Fun
Q: What do Roll20 subscribers get on Demiplane now?
If you’re a Roll20 Plus or Pro subscriber and have gone through an Account Sync, you now automatically receive all Demiplane subscription benefits when you sync your Roll20 and Demiplane accounts.
Q: How has the reception been so far?
It’s been fantastic! We’ve seen tons of players jump into Demiplane’s tools and explore Starfinder 2e’s pre-launch content.
Character Integration Public Alpha: What We’ve Learned
Q: What can I do in the Public Alpha today?
If you want to explore the Public Alpha today, you can:
- Use the Demiplane Starfinder 2e Character Sheet in Roll20’s VTT
- Link your Starfinder 2e Demiplane character sheet to a Roll20 game
- Play Starfinder Playtest Adventures using one of the two available free Virtual Tabletop Companions (Wheel of Monsters and/or A Cosmic Birthday)
- Roll directly from Demiplane into the Roll20 chat
- Assign character tokens in Roll20 to your Demiplane character sheet
- Leverage macros and roll commands with an expanding list of available attributes from Demiplane’s character sheets.
Q: Why Starfinder 2e for the Alpha? Why not another game?
Good question! Starfinder 2e did not have a native Roll20 character sheet, which meant we had the opportunity to launch our integration into a live play experience without disrupting existing campaigns. Pathfinder 2e, Marvel, Vampire, and all other Demiplane-supported systems will be arriving on the Roll20 VTT in the Public Beta!
Q: What feedback have you received about the Character Integration?
Most of the feedback falls into two main categories:
1) Players want advanced character options supported on the Virtual Tabletop:
- The biggest request is the ability to trigger things like ability or spell descriptions into the Virtual Tabletop’s chat to easily share descriptions with other players or the Game Master.
- The next request we saw was a desire for advanced companion/familiar management on the VTT. On Demiplane, these “sidekicks” belong on the same character sheet as the Player Character themselves. As play transitions to the Virtual Tabletop, there’s interest in finding a way to bring a player’s Companion to the table as their own token/sheet.
- We’re looking at the best ways to bring this to life. I don’t expect this specific area will be ready by the time our Public Beta hits at the end of Q2, but we’re thinking on it!
2) GMs want better NPC/Creature integration.
- While this won’t be ready by Public Beta, we are working on bringing NPC Sheets to Demiplane. Once those are live, we’ll be exploring expanding deeper VTT support for each of those systems.
- For game systems like Pathfinder 2 and others that have existing Roll20 support for NPCs, Demiplane character sheets will be available alongside existing Roll20 Character sheets, NPC sheets, and content as a part of our Public Beta.
Thank You & Final Thoughts
A huge “Thank You!” to everyone who has been a part of our Public Alpha to date, shared feedback with us, and helped point out where opportunities for even more fun exist. You are helping us shape the future of connected play!
I expect my next update will go deeper into our Public Beta features – I look forward to bringing the next wave of functionality to you all!
See you at the table!
Peter
