Hello there! Peter here with another update. It has been a fun few weeks watching the reaction to our first blog about the Roll20 x Demiplane Integration!
We’ve seen a lot of interest in our upcoming Cross-Platform Sync benefits that will be part of the integration, so I thought I’d spend some time today sharing a bit more about that feature specifically.
The team has provided a series of questions gathered from across the internet and last week’s Discord Live AMA, so let’s dive in!
What is Cross-Platform Sync?
Our goal with Cross-Platform Sync is to enable players and game masters to play on multiple platforms with a single purchase. This goal requires quite a bit of coordination and I’m pleased we’re able to bring these first foundational steps of connected play to life. In its current iteration, Cross-Platform Sync means that when you buy a title with Cross-Platform Sync on Roll20, you’ll automatically unlock access to it on the Demiplane platform, without any extra cost (and vice versa).
How will it work?
We’ll have step-by-step guidance at launch, but the process will be familiar if you’ve ever used any sort of third-party account linking process. At most, we’re targeting a simple two-step process: First, you’ll link your accounts (Demiplane to Roll20 or vice versa). After that, you trigger a content sync. That’s about it! Your library will continue to sync newly purchased products anytime you purchase a product with Cross-Platform Sync enabled. We’ll also be including a method to manually sync your content across the two platforms.
Do I need a subscription to participate?
No. Cross-Platform Sync products are enabled at the product level, regardless of whether a user is subscribed or not. You will need an account on Roll20 and Demiplane – both of which are free.
There are lots of benefits for Roll20 and Demiplane subscribers, which you can read more about here and here.
Will Cross-Platform Sync be retroactive? Or only for future titles?
Yes, the Cross-Platform Sync program will be retroactive. If you’ve previously purchased a title like ALIEN: Core Rulebook on Roll20, you will be able to manually sync your accounts to enjoy the benefits of Cross-Platform Sync on Demiplane.
Will there be future titles added to the Cross-Platform Sync program?
It is our intent to do so. In addition to some of the new titles we’re announcing today, there will also be future titles that we’re not ready to reveal yet.
What Games are available for Cross-Platform Sync?
I’ve included a list of participating game publishers and game titles below. If we have new additions to the list of participating publishers, we will make certain to notify folks. If a title is approved for Cross-Platform Sync and exists on Roll20 and Demiplane, you must purchase it only once on either platform. It has been great seeing the uptake on this program from our partners thus far!
Previously Announced Publishing Partners:
- Marvel Multiverse RPG – All Marvel-published Titles
- Free League – All ALIEN Titles
- Paizo – All Pathfinder 2e Titles, with plans to support Starfinder 2e titles as they are released
New Publishing Partner Announcements:
- Modiphius – Fallout Core Rulebook (Demiplane Release Date: TBA)
- R. Talsorian – We’ve started our Cross-Platform Sync benefits with Tales of the RED: Hope Reborn, and will continue with titles released from this point forward.
When will Cross-Platform Sync launch?
We remain on track for a late February 2025 launch of our Cross-Platform Sync capabilities and Public Alpha Character integration. Once we’re live, we will make that announcement to everyone. We can’t wait for you to try it out!
Do I need a subscription to participate in the Character Tools Integration Public Alpha or Beta?
No, you do not need a subscription to take part in the Public Alpha or Public Beta program taking place over the course of the next few months. As a refresher, our Public Alpha should open at the end of February. This release will include the ability for users to link accounts between Roll20 and Demiplane, use the new Cross-Platform Sync to sync content libraries, and begin to use Starfinder 2e Demiplane Character Sheets in Starfinder 2e Playtest campaigns on Roll20.
Our introductory post detailed what will be included in our Public Alpha and Beta. You can find that post here. Looking to get a jump start by building out a Starfinder 2e Playtest Character? Get started on Starfinder Playtest Nexus.
Roll20 Discord Stage Q&A
I’ll be hosting a second set of Roll20 Office Hours this week on Friday (Valentine’s Day – how lovely!) – please feel welcome to swing by and ask questions, check out Demiplane’s character sheet and builder functionality, answer questions from last week that weren’t covered, and more. To take part, you’ll need to join the Roll20 Discord.
I hope to see you there this Friday, February 14th, 2025 at 12:00 Pacific
These are exciting updates that are the result of hard work from a lot of great people and partners. I am proud that we are building such a significant, foundational step toward our vision of connected play and I look forward to sharing more with each of you. I’ll be back with an update as we get closer to the launch of these features.
See you at the table!
Peter
